An Electromagnetic Flow Meter, also known as a mag flow meter, is a type of volumetric flow meter that utilizes electromagnetic induction to measure the velocity of conductive liquids as they flow through a pipe123. Let’s delve into the details:
Principle of Operation:
The working principle of an electromagnetic flow meter is based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction.
When a conductive medium (such as water) passes through a magnetic field, a voltage is induced. This voltage is proportional to the average flow velocity of the liquid, the magnetic field strength, and the length of the conductor (the pipe).
Inside the flow meter, wire coils generate a magnetic field, and the liquid flowing through the pipe acts as the conductor. The induced voltage is detected by sensing electrodes within the meter body.
The transmitter calculates the volumetric flow rate based on the pipe dimensions and the detected voltage.
