A Piezometer with a Digital Water Level Recorder (DWLR), as per the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) in India, is an instrument used to monitor groundwater levels. The CGWB has established a network of monitoring wells across the country to measure groundwater levels, which are crucial for managing water resources effectively.
The DWLRs are installed in these wells to record water levels at high frequencies, and the data is transmitted to a central server through the Water Information Management System (WIMS). This system is developed and maintained by the National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The data collected helps in understanding the dynamics of groundwater levels in response to various factors like hydrogeological conditions, recharge rates, and extraction volumes.
