An Electromagnetic Flow Meter, often referred to as a mag meter, is a device that measures the volumetric flow rate of a fluid that is electrically conductive. It operates on the principle of Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction. According to this principle, when a conductive fluid flows through a magnetic field, an electric voltage is induced. This voltage is directly proportional to the velocity of the fluid flowing through the field.
A magnetic field is generated by coils surrounding the flow tube.
As the conductive fluid passes through this magnetic field, a voltage is induced.
This induced voltage is sensed by electrodes located on the flow tube walls.
The voltage is proportional to the flow rate of the fluid; thus, by measuring this voltage, the flow rate can be determined.
